London local authorities successfully sued some 700
construction workers for repeatedly singing "The
Banana Boat Song" at night. To the annoyance of
nearby residents, the workers on site would chorus,
"Come Mr Tallyman, tally me banana, daylight come and
I want to go home." Lawyer David Ashton explained:
"I'm not against workmen being happy, but happy on
appropriate occasions." Fines totalling over
$NZ30,000 were handed down.
